Dr. Nelson received his Bachelor of Arts degree magna cum laude from Gustavus Adolphus College. He obtained his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Minnesota, graduating first in his class. Continuing at the University of Minnesota, Dr. Nelson then completed his specialty training in orthodontics and received his Master of Science degree. Dr. Nelson is Board Certified and a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics.
Along with practicing at Lake Minnetonka Orthodontics, Dr. Nelson is also a member of the Cleft and Cleft Palate Team at Children's Hospital in Minneapolis. He is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, Midwest Society of Orthodontists, Minnesota Association of Orthodontists, American Dental Association, Minnesota Dental Association, and the Minneapolis District Dental Society.
Dr. Nelson grew up in Minnetonka and is a Hopkins High School graduate. He and his wife, Jennifer, live in Orono with their son, Charlie, and daughter, Sophie.
